It was a scary situation when a fire broke out at the Wildcove landfill Thursday night but by Sunday it was mostly suppressed. On Bayfm this morning, Councillor Donna Wheeler spoke about what could have happened because the fire was very close to the forest. She says it was a difficult fire to fight and took place in an area where there was a lot of construction materials and went deep below the ground.
Wheeler says they used excavators and a water bomber to get the fire contained. The dump opened yesterday for regular operations. No buildings or equipment were damaged by the blaze.
