The owner of a plane that crashed three minutes after taking off from Deer Lake has released a statement confirming the aircraft accident resulted in fatalities, however the number is unknown. Andrew Naysmith is the owner of Kisik Aerial Survey Inc. based in Delta, B.C. He says “thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to the families of the deceased and their loved ones. No further details about the incident are available at this time.” Naysmith says “the cause of the accident is under investigation by the Transport Safety Board of Canada and Kisik will support that investigation in any and every way possible.”
At 5:30 Saturday evening, a Piper Navajo twin engine aircraft took off from the Deer Lake Regional Airport and crashed three minutes later. Tammy Priddle is the CEO of the facility. She says the airport’s Emergency Response Services responded immediately along with Deer Lake Fire Rescue, RCMP and NL Health Services. The TCH near the airport entrance was closed heading east and west for about 5 hours. RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador is assisting the TSB in response to the crash.
